When:  6 am, 12 noon and 6 pm Daily through Tues., Sept. 3
Where:  Comporium Ch. 102  (Or Watch Online Video Here)

People for Clean Mountains invited Neil Seldman, founder of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance, to meet with community leaders, local citizens and business owners to discuss Transylvania County’s options for sustainable solid waste management and economic development.  He provided a wealth of knowledge, including a number of viable solutions for Transylvania County.

Seldman is a specialist in recycling and economic development who helps communities attract recycling enterprises and implement cost effective programs. He described strategies that lower costs, incentives to households and businesses to recycle, and specific reuse, composting and recycling companies that could be located in the county.

ILSR has advised cities and counties to create jobs from recycling and lower costs for government operations. Currently, ILSR has advised communities as diverse as Los Angeles, Austin, TX, Alachua County, FL, Atlanta, GA and Washington, DC Information about ILSR and Neil Seldman is available at ilsr.org

We would like to thank Michael Trufant of Launch Media WNC County Manager Artie Wilson and Frank Porter of Comporium for making this presentation available for public viewing.
